SCHOOLS’ REPORTING ON SSI COMPONENTS’ ACTIVITIES

All SSI schools are mandated to report their activities and progress across all four programme components; Green School Audit, Eco Clubs, Train the Trainer and Field trips.

Each activity report should be a few pages long, with images attached as separate files, and submitted through the online reporting system using the school’s username and password.

For the School’s Green Audit, the Green School Report Card, which is a self-assessment of the school’s own environmental performance using the results obtained from the audit process, should be submitted, along with evidence.

Schools are expected to report on the number of teachers who have participated in trainings or workshops on environmental issues, whether they attended trainings conducted by the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi or any other organization whether inside or outside the UAE.

Teachers who get an opportunity to attend trainings or workshops are expected to share their knowledge with other teachers. Schools are expected to show evidence of this knowledge transfer. Schools are also expected to explain how they integrated their trainings or workshops into their curriculum.

In regard to Field Trips, schools have to report on the number of students who participated in Field Trips and whether the Field Trips were integrated into the curriculum, and explain how. They should include a description of students’ field experience. Teachers and field educators should also report on the behaviour and discipline of students during the Field Trips, especially in relation to littering and sensitive behaviour to life forms.

Evaluation of Schools’ Activities across all SSI Components

Once schools submit their individual activity and progress reports, alongside photographic evidence online, the evaluation committee will review and rate it. The schools will be able to view feedback and advice on any improvements that should be taken into consideration.

EAD is introducing a new rating system for all schools in the SSI network. The new rating system is called Green Stars and it’s a two-phase process, whereby each school’s reporting on all SSI components is compiled and it is assigned a colour based on its score.

Over the following year, all schools have the opportunity to improve their rating and work towards achieving the highest number of green stars. The Green Stars rating ranges from five stars, awarded to the best performing schools, and one star awarded to schools which has significant improvements to make.
