What is the Tide Turners
Plastic Challenge?

The Tide Turners Plastic Challenge is a global youth movement to fight plastic pollution around the world. It is designed to inspire young adults to reflect upon their plastic consumption, discover solutions to reduce this consumption, and lead change in their homes, communities, institutions, and offices. By joining the challenge, you will be part of an entire generation of young leaders who are changing the world.

Our Objectives

  • Understand how plastic pollution is threatening life in oceans, other water bodies, and on land.
  • Inspire friends, families, schools, colleges, or communities to reduce consumption of single-use plastics.
  • Reduce your personal consumption of single-use or disposable plastics.
  • Become a Youth Leader by creating lasting change on a wider scale in your sphere of influence.
  • Understand how the global community is tackling the issue.

Challenge Levels

The Tide Turners Plastic Challenge is divided into three levels, each designed to progressively engage participants in understanding and combating plastic pollution.

Level 1

Entry

Entry level activities are designed to get you thinking about your own consumption and what simple actions you can take to reduce single-use plastic in your day-to-day life.

Leader

In the Leader level, you will dive deeper to explore, investigate, and take action about single-use plastic consumption and its management within your home, neighborhood, or at a community level. This level might be a bit harder, but the impact will be bigger too!

Champion

In the Champion level, you will be ready to scale-up efforts to make a greater impact. Activities would include taking action to promote sustainable consumption & production by influencing consumers and businesses. You will educate others and continue your advocacy efforts by turning your learnings and actions into educational assets like videos, comics, storybooks, GIFs, etc.

The tide turner plastic challenge is a global youth movement designed to inspire young people to reduce plastic consumption, find innovative solutions to combat plastic pollution, and lead change in their communities.

The challenge is open for students from age (11-18 years old) as well to eco-club members. You can register as an individual or as an eco-club member to participate in the challenge. 50 students from each school can participate.

Step 4: You will receive a certificate from the UN Environment Programme

The challenge comprises of three levels - Entry, Leader and Champion - with a scoring system. Scoring enough points at each level entitles, participants will move to the next level of the challenge.

Learning and Education: Through workshops and educational games to understand the impact of plastic.
Social Interaction: Organizing virtual discussion sessions and sharing groups on social media.
Teamwork: Collecting plastic waste in oceans or neighborhoods.
Personal Commitment: Making individual decisions to reduce plastic use.
Community Impact: Raising issues with school administrations and finding tangible solutions.
Awareness Campaigns: Creating a movement for change and increasing awareness about plastic waste management.
These activities combine education, practical work, and community engagement to achieve a positive impact.

You will receive a certificate from the UN Environment Programme on completion of each level and you will get a badge on completion of the entire challenge .
