The Paris Agreement is a legally binding international treaty on climate change. It was signed by 196 countries at the UN Climate Change Conference (COP21) in Paris, France, on 12th December 2015. It came into effect on 4 th November 2016.
The signatories are required to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions. The Paris Agreement aims to decrease the global average temperature to at least 2 degrees Celsius and limit the temperature increase to 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels.
The UAE is also a signatory to the Paris Agreement. The government aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 23.5 % by 2030. The UAE Energy Strategy aims to increase clean energy to 50 % by the year 2050.
The UAE is not a signatory to the Paris Agreement.
